He then transitioned to gain further leadership and clinical skills as a Combat Search and Rescue Medical Director and Flight Surgeon in the USAF at Nellis Air Force Base. Following those years, Dr. Abrams then completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, followed by a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Health, Hershey, PA. He is a graduate of UT Health Science Center in Memphis and received his B.S. in Chemistry from University of Pittsburgh.

In his free time, Dr. Abrams enjoys riding his motorcycle, playing basketball, and competitive shooting.
