To Get You Back to What Matters
With two advanced surgery centers available, we specialize in comprehensive orthopedic care— diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating diseases and injuries of the bone, muscle, tendon, nerve and ligament in both adults and children.
OrthoSouth® Surgery Centers are designed to accommodate a number of surgical specialties, including orthopedics, pain management and spine procedures.
We are proud that our Germantown surgery center was recognized as a U.S. News "Best Ambulatory Surgery Center" in Orthopedics and Spine - the only surgery center in the Mid-South to receive this designation that offers both orthopedic and spine surgeries.
What does this mean for you?

Preparing for Surgery at an OrthoSouth Surgery Center
What to Know Before You Go
BEFORE SURGERY
- A few days before your surgery, one of our preoperative nurses will call you between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM to review your medical history, confirm your appointment time, and provide important pre-surgery instructions. Please have a complete list of your medications, including dosages, ready for this call.
- For your safety and support, all surgeries and procedures require a responsible adult or caregiver to accompany you to the center, stay with you during your visit, drive you home, and remain with you for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
- Depending on your individual needs, anesthesia may require a pre-evaluation visit, lab work, or clearance letters from your cardiologist or other specialists.
- Our business office will also reach out to verify your insurance coverage, benefits, and any financial responsibilities.
- MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: Our team, including your provider and the surgery center staff, will carefully review how to manage your prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements to ensure your safety before and after surgery.
If you have any questions or need assistance, we're here to help every step of the way. Schedule your appointment today to begin your personalized orthopedic care journey with OrthoSouth.
DAY OF SURGERY
To ensure a smooth and timely surgery experience, please review the following important guidelines:
Arrival and Documentation
Please arrive at the exact time scheduled by your preoperative nurse. Having your insurance cards and photo ID ready will help us complete routine preoperative procedures efficiently and keep your surgery on schedule.
Payment Information
Be prepared to pay any deductible or co-insurance on the day of your surgery. We accept cash, cashier's checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and Care Credit.
Medications and Medical Devices
Take your heart, blood pressure, seizure, asthma, or reflux medications with a small sip of water on the morning of your procedure. If you use a prescription inhaler or CPAP machine, please bring it with you. Also, bring any medical devices prescribed by your doctor such as shoulder slings, immobilizers, walkers, or crutches.
What to Wear and Bring
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes. Please remove all jewelry, including body piercings and jeweled nails, and avoid hair extensions or products containing metal. Leave valuables at home for safekeeping.
You cannot wear contact lenses during surgery, so bring your glasses to read and sign documents. If you don't have glasses, bring a contact lens case and solution to remove your contacts before your procedure.
Fasting and Lifestyle Restrictions
Do not eat or drink anything, including gum, candy, mints, or lozenges, from midnight before your surgery until the procedure is complete. Please refrain from smoking, vaping, or using any tobacco products during this time as well.
Caregiver Information
Your caregiver will need to remain in the waiting room while you are in surgery. Most surgeons will provide updates once your procedure is finished.
Important: Notify Us of Any Changes
If you experience any changes in your health before surgery—such as a fever, cold or flu symptoms, exposure to communicable diseases, new infections requiring antibiotics, or open sores or scratches—please contact your surgeon immediately.
AFTER SURGERY
After your procedure, you can expect to spend between 30 and 120 minutes in our recovery room, depending on the type of anesthesia used. Once you're ready for discharge, we will provide both verbal and written instructions to your caregiver to guide your recovery at home.
The Surgery Center will follow up with you on the next business day to check on your progress and answer any questions. If we are unable to reach you by phone, we will send a card to your home.
If you have any urgent concerns in the meantime, please call us at (901) 641-3000. This line is available 24/7 but is not an emergency number. In case of an emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room and have them contact your surgeon.
Important Reminders About Anesthesia and Surgery
- Anesthesia and medications may slow your reflexes and result in drowsiness.
- Use of public transportation is also prohibited after surgery.
- To arrange for someone to drive you to the Surgery Center for your procedure, drive you home and remain with you for 24 hours after the operation.
