J. Wells Prather II, MD

Dr. John "Wells" Prather is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow care. Combining extensive clinical training with a deep commitment to academic research and leadership, Dr. Prather delivers advanced, evidence-based orthopaedic care to his patients.

Dr. Prather completed his highly specialized fellowship training in upper extremity care, building upon a rigorous foundation in orthopaedic surgery and research:

• Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship: Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY (2025-2026)
• Orthopaedic Surgery Residency: Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY (2020-2025)
• Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fellowship: University of Alabama-Birmingham, Birmingham, AL (2019-2020)
• Medical Degree: University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis, TN (2015-2019)

A dedicated leader within the medical community, Dr. Prather has consistently stepped up to shape the future of orthopaedic education and policy. He served as an AAOS Residency Program Delegate from 2020 to 2025 and contributed directly to national training initiatives as a member of the AAOS Education Committee. To further complement his leadership roles, he completed the Leadership Essentials Certificate Program at Cornell University in 2019.
