Mako SmartRobotics™ Total Joint Replacement

Since completing the first Mako SmartRobotics™ Total Knee replacement in the Memphis area in 2018, I have been extremely impressed with the improved outcomes of more than 250 of my patients that have elected to use the technology for their knee replacement.

Mako’s CT-based technology allows me to know more and cut less by fine tuning the implant placement to perfectly balance the knee while only cutting precisely what is planned to help protect your healthy bone and soft tissues. Studies have shown that utilization of Mako technology results in:

  • less bone and soft tissue damage
  • less need for opiodanalgesics (pain medication)
  • less time to hospital discharge
  • less need for inpatient physical therapy sessions
  • and less post-operative pain.

Mako SmartRobotics™ with Triathlon Knee design is an innovative solution for many suffering from painful arthritis of the knee. Mako uses a 3D CT-based planning software which allows me to have a more accurate and precise view of the knee or hip anatomy so that a virtual, personalized joint replacement surgical plan can be created prior to surgery.

Also, the precision of Mako SmartRobotics allows the surgeon to utilize the new Pressfit Total Knee implant.

Advances in Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) have now made it possible to incorporate Stryker’s clinically proven Triathlon Knee design with a porous structure that mimics the 3D structure of normal bone. This unique porous metal structure, also referred to as a Pressfit Knee implant, is ameanable for biologic fixation and has resulted in excellent early to mid-term implant survivorship, when compared to cemented fixation of the same knee design, in patients that are younger and heavier.  When appropriate for patients that have healthy bone quality, I am happy to offer this Pressfit Knee implant which offers evidence for longer term implant survivorship.

I look forward to using these unique and proven technologies to improve your or your love one’s mobility.
