New Program seeks to provide more convenient access to comprehensive orthopedic care

October 28, 2019, Memphis, TN – OrthoSouth – the new orthopedic practice comprising Memphis legacy practices Memphis Orthopaedic Group, OrthoMemphis, and Tabor Orthopedics – along with Baptist Memorial Health Care formed the Institute for Orthopedic Excellence, a partnership program designed to offer patients in the Mid-South access to comprehensive, collaborative care for a full range of orthopedic conditions and injuries.

“We are very excited to extend our offering of excellent customer service, unprecedented accessibility, and world-class orthopedic care to Baptist patients throughout the Mid-South region,” stated OrthoSouth CEO Kimble Jenkins. “This partnership represents an important development in the way we deliver orthopedic care to patients within our community. We want to be available wherever you are, whenever you need us, and ensure you enjoy a relatively comfortable, smooth experience while under our care.”

Dr. Paul DePriest, Baptist Memorial Health Care’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, agreed. “In keeping with the Baptist tradition of facilitating access to the best providers and specialists in our region, we are proud to be working with 42 of the most respected orthopedic physicians in Memphis to offer 24/7 services, including the ability to be seen by a specialist at both Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis and Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, access to follow-up care in an office location convenient to the patient, and the ability to be seen after hours and on Saturdays, with or without an appointment. Whether for a sports-related injury, a broken bone or a consult for carpal tunnel surgery, we know patients benefit from increased access to great care, and it’s our mission to provide that access.”

The partnership between Baptist and OrthoSouth focuses on customer service and increased accessibility across the Mid-South region. OrthoSouth offers 24/7 appointment booking online, eight Mid-South clinics, and To ensure timely orthopedic care is available to all patients, hospitals that are facing a decline in reliable community coverage must look to new models. The most effective strategy for hospitals to achieve guaranteed orthopedic services — and added value throughout the facility — is partnering with an experienced, third-party provider of orthopedic hospitalists to create an integrated, hospital-based orthopedic surgical service.

In this model, the hospital’s partner recruits and employs a small team of orthopedic surgeons who share hospital coverage responsibility on a rotating basis. The benefits of this model include:

As a benefit to Baptist patients, OrthoSouth hospitalists will work at both Baptist Memphis and Baptist DeSoto to facilitate 24/7 admissions for orthopedic injuries.

With eight clinic locations, extended hours, Saturday hours, walk-in availability, urgent care, 24/7 online appointment booking, and two ambulatory surgery centers, OrthoSouth is providing a new kind of healthcare experience to patients in the Mid-South, delivering world-class orthopedics combined with unprecedented accessibility and exceptional customer service.

One of the country’s largest not-for-profit health care systems, Baptist Memorial Health Care offers a full continuum of care to communities throughout the Mid-South. The Baptist system, which consistently ranks among the top integrated health care networks in the nation, comprises 22 affiliate hospitals in West Tennessee, Mississippi and East Arkansas; more than 5,000 affiliated physicians; Baptist Medical Group, a multispecialty physician group with more than 750 providers; home health, hospice and palliative care; psychiatric care, minor medical centers and clinics; a network of surgery, rehabilitation and other outpatient centers; and an education system highlighted by the Baptist College of Health Sciences.
